BOARD OF CITY COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS SPECIAL CALLED SESSION JUNE 25, 2000 AT 6:30 P.M. The Board of City Commissioners of the City of Shawnee, County of Pottawatomie, State of Oklahoma, met in Special Called Session in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 9th and Broadway, Shawnee, Oklahoma, Sunday, June 25, 2000 at 2:30 p.m., pursuant to notice duly posted as prescribed by law. Mayor Harden presided and called the meeting to order. Upon roll call, the following members were in attendance. Chris Harden Mayor Robert M. IN THE COMMISSION CHAMBERS OF CITY HALL, 9TH AND BROADWAY, SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA, AND SETTING FORTH THE PURPOSE OF SAID SPECIAL MEETING. By virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 2, Article IV of the Charter of the City of Shawnee, Oklahoma, a Special Session of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Shawnee, Oklahoma is hereby called to meet in the Commission Chambers, City Hall, 9th and Broadway, Shawnee, Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. on June 25, 2000 for the purpose of a welcome reception and introductions of the Board of City Commissioners and Nikaho adult delegation in commemoration of the Sister Cities 10-year anniversary. TO THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA AND THE CITY MANAGER: You and each of you are hereby notified that by virtue of a call issued by me on this 19th day of June, 2000, a Special Session will be held of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Shawnee, Oklahoma in the Commission Chambers of City Hall, 9th and Broadway, Shawnee, Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. on June 25, 2000, and you are hereby notified to be present at said meeting. The purpose of said meeting will be for the purpose of a welcome reception and introductions of the Board of City Commissioners and Nikaho adult delegation in commemoration of the Sister Cities 10-year anniversary. Mayor/Commissioner(s) _____________________,___________________________ could not be found in the City of Shawnee, Oklahoma at time of delivery on_______________. s/s Diana Hallock CITY CLERK AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Introductions of the Board of City Commissioners and Nikaho adult delegation in commemoration of the Sister Cities 10-year anniversary. Mayor Harden welcomed the delegation from Nikaho, Japan and formal introductions were made beginning with the City Commission and staff members City Manager Terry Powell, City Attorney John Canavan, and City Clerk Diana Hallock. The 2000 Nikaho delegation was introduced as follows: Mr. Norio Tomoe, Mayor of Nikaho Ms. Naka Tomoe Ms. Kumiko Miyamoto, NIFA President Mr. Fumio Watanabe, Nikaho Council Mr. Yoshinori Iio, Speaker of Nikaho Council Mr. Katsunari Yamada Mr. Shoichi Kosukegawa, NIFA Council Mr. Takenori Sato Ms. Noriko Takehana Miss Naoko Sato Mr. Fumiaki Oba Miss Kimiko Abe Mr. Nobukazu Miyazaki Ms. Tomiko Endo Miss Noriko Abe Miss Tomoko Suda Miss Shino Anbai Mr. Junichi Osugi, Tour Guide Mr. Kazuo Sato Mr. Masahiko Suda, Planning Director Ms. Yoshimi Sato Miss Yuko Saito, Planning Division staff AGENDA ITEM NO. 2: Mayor’s presentation of the proclamation. Mayor Harden issued the following proclamation: “Sister Cities Days Ten Year Anniversary” June 22-26, 2000 (accepted by Mayor Norio Tomoe) A City of Shawnee pin and an ornament was then given to each delegate. AGENDA ITEM NO. 3: Acknowledge lanterns for the Garden of Peace from the Town of Nikaho and other gift exchanges. Mayor Harden expressed appreciation on behalf of the City of Shawnee for the two beautiful lanterns and wooden plaque engraved “Sister Cities Peace Garden” that was placed in the garden. Next, Mayor Tomoe presented a set of fish flags to replace the ones that were worn out. Then, Mr. Yoshinori Iio, Speaker of Nikaho Council, gave a brief speech and issued greetings from the Nikaho Council to the Board of City Commissioners and the citizens of Shawnee. He and Mayor Tomoe then presented a Samarai doll as a gift from the Town of Nikaho to the City of Shawnee and other gifts to the Commission. Applause from the audience consisting of guests and host families concluded the meeting. AGENDA ITEM NO. 4: Adjournment. There being no further business to come before the meeting, a motion was made by Vice Mayor Downing, seconded by Commissioner Harrod, that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
