At the commencement of the meeting, a quorum of four Commissioners was present.

AGENDA ITEM NO. 1: Presentation and discussion with Mr. Bill Geist regarding the Shawnee Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB).

Mr. Geist began the discussion by asking commissioners for input regarding the City’s current relationship with the CVB. Commissioner Smith stated that he felt the issues between the organizations became problematic when CVB bought property with public funds a few years ago and the property was then “owned” by the Chamber of Commerce. He also stated that he felt it was difficult to obtain information from the Chamber.
Commissioner Winterringer stated that he felt there were still bad feelings between the Chamber and the City because of CVB issues and the resignation of one of their employees.
Areas also discussed between Mr. Geist and Commissioners were whether the CVB was marketing current attractions correctly, whether tourism dollars were being spent wisely, increasing hotel/motel fees, realignment of current fees and the impact of casinos on tourism.
Commissioner Harrod stated that Shawnee needs to determine what it wants to be known for. If it’s the rodeo, then more tourism dollars need to be spent at the Expo Center.
At 3:35 p.m. Commissioner Smith left the meeting and a quorum was no longer present.
